1. Cleaning: Scrub with a stiff brush and rinse thoroughly in plain water to remove any dust or loose fragments.
2. Water Chemistry: Many Japanese-style rocks can have a slight effect on water parameters. It is advisable to monitor your pH and KH levels, as some pieces may slightly increase hardness.
3. Safety: When stacking rocks to create caves, ensure they are stable. For large, heavy setups, consider placing a layer of foam or egg crate on the base of the aquarium to protect the glass.
4. Biofilm: In new setups, a thin, harmless white film may develop on the rock. This is a natural occurrence and is often consumed by algae-eating fish and shrimp.
