Description
Fluke-Solve:
Comprehensive Fluke and Worm Treatment Protocol
Fluke-Solve is a professional-grade, water-soluble veterinary medicament containing Praziquantel, designed to safely and effectively eradicate various parasitic infestations in freshwater and tropical ornamental fish. Its primary use is against Monogenean trematodes (flukes), but it is also effective against small internal cestodes (tapeworms).
Targeted Parasites
Fluke-Solve is a powerful anti-parasitic treatment that combats external and internal threats.
| Parasite Type | Target Species | Symptoms in Fish |
|---|---|---|
| Gill Flukes | Dactylogyrus spp. | Rapid, laboured breathing, “gasping” at the surface, flicking of the gill covers, swollen or red gills. |
| Body Flukes | Gyrodactylus spp. | Flashing (rubbing against objects), lethargy, excessive mucus production leading to a grey or dull coating, frayed fins. |
| Internal Worms | Small Cestodes (Tapeworms) | Emaciation despite eating, long white faeces, slow growth, general malaise. |
Treatment Protocol: Dosage and Application
Accurate dosing is critical for successful treatment. Always calculate your aquarium volume in litres () before mixing the powder.
1. Preparation
- Remove Carbon: Immediately remove all activated carbon, Zeolite, or other chemical filtration media from the filter, as these will absorb the Praziquantel.
- Keep Biological Filtration Running: Ensure the biological filter (sponges, ceramic media) remains running to maintain water quality and oxygenation.
- UV Sterilisers: Turn off any UV steriliser units for the entire duration of the treatment.
2. Mixing and Dosing
- Calculate Dose: Measure the correct quantity of Fluke-Solve powder for your aquarium’s volume (usually of Praziquantel per ).
- Dissolve: Take a small jug of aquarium water and add the required dose of powder. Stir the solution thoroughly until the powder is completely dissolved and the water is clear.
- Application: Slowly and evenly pour the dissolved solution into the aquarium over the filter return or near a strong powerhead/airstone. This ensures the medicament is rapidly dispersed throughout the water column.
3. The Essential Double-Dose Schedule
Flukes reproduce by laying eggs, which are not killed by Praziquantel. Only the free-swimming larvae and adults are affected. To break the parasite’s life cycle completely, a repeat dose is mandatory.
- Treatment 1: Apply the full dose on Day 1. Leave the treatment in the water for to days.
- Water Change: Perform a water change on Day 7 or Day 10.
- Treatment 2: Repeat the full dosage on Day 10 to Day 14. This second dose targets the next generation of flukes that have hatched from eggs since the initial application.
- Final Water Change: Perform another water change after days following the second dose. Chemical media can now be replaced.
Safety and Precautions
Invertebrate Toxicity
- WARNING: Fluke-Solve is highly toxic to most aquatic invertebrates, including all species of ornamental shrimp (e.g., Amano, Cherry) and aquatic snails (e.g., Nerite, Assassin).
- Removal: It is essential to remove all non-target invertebrates to a separate holding tank before commencing treatment.
General Safety
- Aeration: Ensure strong aeration via an airstone during the entire treatment period, as stressed fish or high temperatures can lower dissolved oxygen levels.
- Monitoring: Keep a close eye on your fish. In the first after dosing, you may notice temporary increased flashing as the dying parasites detach; this is a normal reaction.
- Re-Dosing: Only follow the prescribed schedule. Do not add partial doses or repeat treatment outside the recommended window.
