As livebearers, they are prolific breeders and thrive in tanks with appropriate, often alkaline, water conditions. Key Characteristics

• Size: Adults typically reach 10 to 12 centimetres (4 to 5 inches), with males slightly smaller than females.
• Lifespan: Can live for 3 to 5 years with proper care.
• Colouration: A bright, uniform golden-yellow across the body and fins. The “Long Fin” designation refers to the elongated, flowing dorsal and caudal fins, which require clean water to prevent damage or infection.
• Temperament: Peaceful, social, and active. They are excellent community fish, but should be kept in a group (at least one male for every two to three females).
• Social Note: They are livebearers, meaning they give birth to fully formed, free-swimming fry. If housing both sexes, expect constant breeding.

Natural Origin and Water Needs

Tank Size

Water Parameters

Mollies prefer hard, alkaline conditions and often benefit from the use of aquarium salt (though not marine salt).

Décor and Furnishings

The aquarium should be set up to provide both open swimming space and secure hiding areas, particularly important for female Mollies escaping the continuous attention of males.

1. Planting: Include plenty of dense, live plant cover (e.g., Hornwort, Java Moss, Amazon Sword) along the edges. Plants also provide algae for grazing.
2. Substrate: Neutral gravel or sand.
3. Filtration: A good quality filter that provides strong biological filtration is necessary, but the water flow should not be overly strong, especially given the Long Fin variety’s extended fins.

Diet and Feeding
