These habitats are typically characterised by rocky substrates, sand, and gravel, with abundant submerged vegetation and driftwood. The water parameters are generally soft to moderately hard and slightly acidic to neutral, with temperatures ranging from 15-25°C (59-77°F). They are often found in shoals, navigating the strong currents.

Physical Characteristics

The Torpedo Barb is a medium to large-sized fish for an aquarium, usually reaching an adult size of approximately 11-15 cm (4.5-6 inches) in total length. Its most striking features are its streamlined body and vibrant colouration.

• Body Shape: Elongated, torpedo-shaped, and streamlined, designed for navigating strong currents.
• Colouration: A silvery-gold body with a prominent, bright red stripe running from the snout through the eye and along the upper flank, ending before the caudal fin. Below this, a distinct black stripe runs parallel to the red one. The dorsal fin often has a black blotch with a yellow or orange tip.
• Fins: Transparent or lightly tinted, with the caudal fin sometimes showing red and black markings.
• Barbels: Possesses a pair of small barbels.

Diet and Feeding
